My brother married a McFarland girl and there was a part of the wedding ceremony where she was given the Clanranald sash as a way of welcoming her to our clan. She rightly pointed out that in this day and age my brother would be joining her clan also. They found an old tradition of the father of the bride presenting the groom with a sword with which to protect his daughter. Having no practical need for a real sword, the father of the bride presented my brother with a claymore shaped McFarland clan crest kilt pin as part of the ceremony. He wears it with pride.
