My wife is buying me a nicer kilt in the Clergy ancient tartan for my birthday in December. For New Year's eve, we are planning on attending a little formal gathering, at which time I would like to wear the new kilt. I was already planning to bite the bullet and order a new pair of bespoke diced hose, but I am unsure of what colors to get them in. I prefer simple diced hose to full tartan, and therefore that option isn't on the table for me. I thought about getting them in charcoal and ancient blue, but my formal doublet is navy in color. I want to try something to break up the blue, but what colors look good with that tartan? I have tried red/white and it was a look I don't care to repeat. I have also used red/black, which was a bit better, but still not quite a stunning combination. Does anyone have any suggestions?
