St. Andrews Society of the Eastern Shore, 44th Annual Dinner

The St. Andrew's Society of the Eastern Shore's 44th annual dinner was this weekend (11-22-14) in St. Michaels, Maryland. This is a 'black tie' event and Susan and I had a great time immersing ourselves in our Scottish heritage. We were seated with Ian Fleming and his wife from Stirling Scotland, the proprietors of The Robert Morris Inn in Oxford, Maryland (a historic inn that is one of the finest culinary experiences on the Eastern Shore). We experienced a truly entertaining and animated rendition of Robert Burns Address to a Haggis by fellow member, Peregrine Russell-Hunter and an inspiring concert by The Chesapeake Caledonian Pipes & Drums (to which some of our members belong).

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle.
