YOJiMBO20, you may be right about two different colors on the front and back. My pipe band's kilt has this issue. It's mainly blue on the front apron, but it's pleated to the double red stripes on the back which gives it a blue vs. red appearance when standing still.
A band in the area, UC Riverside, has the same thing. Except instead of red, the backs of their kilts are gold. If they had pleated to the blue block, the whole thing would look better, IMO.
