Fake "Laird" Title Purveyors Get Schooled on Twitter
Ok, ok... I know, it's beating a dead horse on XMarks, as we've discussed this to oblivion. But this is not to discuss the matter, as it is to present a very humourous story about the whole debacle. That's why this is in Craig's Corner and not Miscellaneous.
(The link to the whole story is at the end... I will briefly summarize it herein first though, because although the link is safe, I give fair notice, that it does contain a weeee bit o' foul language here and there, so click through at your own discretion).
The other day, there was an absolutely brilliant exchange on Twitter that began with our good friends at Highland Titles Ltd. pitching their £29.99 souvenir plot ad on Twitter. One rather feisty Scots conveyancer (a lawyer who specializes in transfers of real estate titles in Scotland), starts calling H.T.Ltd on their shenanigans. The fun and ribbing is soon joined by a law professor from Aberdeen University. Before long, H.T.Ltd starts responding to the tweets, and then the fun really starts. The next characters to arrive include: another lawyer and President of the Law Society, yet another Scots lawyer who links through to the Lord Lyon's definition of what a Laird is, and then things really go sideways when the Regius Professor of Scots law at Glasgow University starts tweeting too.
Then, when H.T.Ltd. starts blocking every Scots lawyer they can from seeing their Twitter account, things really go unglued and even more hilarity ensues.
By the end, I was laughing quite loudly, much to the chagrin of my neighbours, I'm sure. But this was remarkably well played, and it would be remiss of me not to share with the rabble, who will surely appreciate the jocularity as much as me!
