Gents, I've now got various costings for reweaving the Culloden sett. Given that this will be for kilts I am not prepared to use Marton Mill because they do not weave a selvedge. This is a personal preference but one that is historically important to me and, by choosing a weaver that can still weave a kilting selvedge it keeps alive the technique that bit longer.
That leaves HOE, Lochcarron, Dalgliesh or Elliots. I discount HOE and Lochcarron because of the minimum order requirements which leave just two. In both cases the wholesale cost is some 50% higher than last time I did this, that's principally why Dalgliesh went under as they was not covering their costs. I see from their new price list that they now make a 20% surcharge for a tartan with 7 colours and so that effectively rules them out too leaving just Elliots. Robin's heavy weight cloth is excellent so I have no issue with that and would just need to work with him to get close to WoB shades.
On that basis I could offer 160z double width @ £50 p/y plus shipping; so, £100/£200 plus shipping for a 4/8 yd kilt length respectively. This is based on a min order of 30 yds which I would take at risk based on the level of interest. Please confirm your interest either on the forum or via a PM.
