Alcohol seems to be a factor when people act stupidly. But I believe some of the blame is due to printed tee shirts that play to the issue of what is worn under the kilt. Also, some kilt wearers, again where drinking is involved, do contribute to this juvenile behavior.
As a new kilt wearer I have been asked by a 50 plus women in an Ikea. Since I usually wear my kilt at volunteer jobs and at church, I simply answer that I wear shorts
