So, I recently bought two consecutive bottles of the 10 year Ardbeg, and, more recently, a bottle of Islay Storm--my two favorite premium and economy/everyday Islay malts--and they both tasted horrible! NO peat, NO brine, NO vanilla, NO "clouding" (with a touch of water), and generally none of the famous Islay Malt complexity or subtlety whatsoever. Still drinkable, mind you, compared to virtually anything blended, but still...frighteningly out of character. Is it just me, or is there something truly bad happening there? I am deeply concerned--Islay Malt is what God drink's, for God's sake. Has anyone else noticed this?
