    Penelope's Kilt Hose

I am calling these Penelope's hose because the project had so many false starts. Remember how Penelope kept ripping out her weaving, so as to avoid suitors? I ripped both socks out several times before I got rolling on them. They are for Steve's Isle of Skye kilt. Lesson: knitting with dark colors in the evenings is eye-stabbing.

Isle of Skye was always my favorite of Steve's kilts. Recently, I learned that my husband and I are 7th cousins, both descended from Martin Martin, born about 1670 on the Isle of Skye. So, it is in our blood.

The main colorway is a sock yarn I picked up in September at Unwound Yarns in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. It is crimson rose from Blue Ridge Yarns in Virginia. I dyed the antique brass color for the cuff. It had been a pale blue sock yarn, where I found it, I can't remember. The dark brown and burgundy colors are Regia sock yarn.

Isle of Skye is my favorite of Steve's kilts. It is unusual in that it has both warm and cool colors. Different colors of shirts and socks highlight different colors from the tartan.

Here are photos of the completed hose: closeup, back and front.
