Five kilts in two weeks
1. Tartan throwing kilt from Robertson, red polyester-viscose for Rachel. I'm cheating on this one, as I don't have enough PV to do a real six-yard "Hammer Kilt" (what I usually call my athletic kilts). She's getting a 14-pleat 3 1/2 yarder which will be for throwing-only. That said, it will be a lot nicer than any Sportkilt, pleated to stripe (the dark green/blue area with the red stripe down the middle...Rachels choice), hand-sewn pleats and a strap/buckle closure. Also, she's a skinny lil' thang, so 3 1/2 yards doesn't look as bad on her as you'd think.
Also, I started this one already, so really and truly the title of this thread should be five kilts in two and a HALF weeks.
"loaner" kilts for backhold wrestlers..
2, 3. Green super-lightweight poly/cotton with a tartan swatch inserted in the reverse pleat. Waist size 32 and 36. These will close with velcro and are 3 1/2 yards, though the tartan inner-reverse pleat actually makes it more like 3.75 yards. These should be wearable by guys/gals +/- 2 inches either way.
4,5. Black, as above only 4 yards of material. The tartan swatch actually bumps the yardage up a little bit. Waist sizes 38 and 42 inches. As it stands right now, into the two weeks about 3 days, the 42-inch black kilt is nearing completion. The pleats are all in, the overapron is done, the tartan is inserted and the under-apron is done. It just needs the waistband, a strip to hold the velcro, and a trip to the ironing board.
I'll show pics when they get used. These are by no means "traditional", they're inexpensive loaners for athletic events, which will mostly get worn by guys in the 150-200 pound range. I'm wondering if I can get them all done! Oyyy.
