white jacket, black waistcoat
I, too, live in a warm climate and white dinner jackets are still often seen in these parts. Sometimes they are a "warm white" or cream color. I am a big fan of the argyll, but this is one instance when I think it might not be best. I vote for a decommissioned white dress mess jacket, worn with a black barathea or silk faille vest. The first step away from looking like a waiter will be choosing white wool instead of white cotton drill, no matter what style you choose. If you have a chance, try to make sure that your jacket doesn't resemble the actual uniforms worn by employees of the cruise ship.
I am surprised nobody has mentioned Bertie Wooster yet. ooops.
