substitute sporrans
Hi, whilst I can appreciate the style and good taste of a traditional sporran, for my daily routine regular sporrans just don't fill the bill. I walk everywhere and so when I go out I take a lot of stuff with me. Maybe I am combining shopping with the walk and so there's a wallet with cash and credit cards etc. Then there's a can of dog-spray, (just love dogs but I have been bitten twice), there's sunglasses, maybe some photos to show the guys down at the pub, and on and on. I have recently been thinking of a digital camera case as a substitute sporran. One by Lowepro measures approximately the same size as a regular sporran but has useful compartments and zips on it. I took the plunge and bought what appears to be a leather mens shoulder purse.By cutting off the strap and replacing it with a back-mounted belt of nylon webbing it becomes a sporran. This thing is really at the "top-end" size-wise, it is 7" x 8". A large sporran may look good on the Great Hulk but on a wee guy like me it can look like I am slinging a briefcase up front of my kilt. I figure that I can "Celticize" this thing by perhaps adding a pewter crest or something. You experienced lads oot there are probably ahead of me on this already. Any more ideas? An' dinna tell me aboot backpacks, I carry one o' them tae! Thanks,- Longforgan
