A Discovery in the Attic... 17 years ago
When I was twelve I was looking around in my grandparent's attic. I found all sorts of papers and documents from the early 20th century. I loved it and found it very exciting. I found a folded up piece of aged paper. I unolded it and and when I opened I saw this incredible pencil sketch.

It was a pretty big moment in my young life. It was drawn by my grandmother's uncle. He died shortly after he drew it. My understanding was that he drew this while he was in the trenches and posted it home but it is surrounded in a fair bit of mystery.
My grandmother ended up getting this framed and gave it to me as a gift some time later. It was so touching and it is one of my prized possessions. I love all of the details on the soldier. I do not know if this is a self portrait or if he drew this of someone or if it is just invention. I thought I would post it on here and share it with you guys to see what ideas come forward.
Best,
Adam
