Choosing a tartan
Hi Magnus, I understand your quandary, am going through the same myself right now. My previous kilts when I was much younger were family tartans. This time around, I opted instead to choose strictly by color and although never having been a fashion-plate in pants, I figure that if a tartan is fairly neutral (such as monochromatic greyish) then one can wear a variety of tops in whatever colors. But also if a tartan is chosen which has even a trace of a given color, then it looks good with a top of a similar hue. I chose the Sutherland Muted using this theory. It is generally subdued and has green, a trace of blue and warmth provided by rich red (but not too much!) That means it should look good with tops which have a similar color-bias. Example: Navy to rich blue, or forest green to khaki, or rich burgundy should all look good (I hope) But then this subject is like art appreciation isn't it? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Hope this gives you some inspiration. Cheers- Longforgan
