On Her Majesty's Secret Service
I'm a Bond fan from way back, but I'd never seen "On Her Majesty's Secret Service."
I'd always assumed that it must have been awful since George Lazenby didn't return to play Bond in future films. I was wrong.
George Lazenby does a credible job of playing superspy James Bond. He's got the look, the style, and that casual arrogance that marks the James Bond character. I wonder what happened that this was his first and last appearance in the role. He was very good and could only have gotten better.
Anyway, he spends a very good chunk of the film in a formal kilt outfit. He looks quite striking.
The kilt comes off a few scenes later when Bond slips into the suite of a woman who wrote her room number on his thigh with lipstick while they were seated at dinner previously.
Telly Savalas plays Ernst Blofeld in this one. The fake accent makes him sound like a New York cabbie with a bad headcold. I keep expecting him to say, "Who loves ya, baby?" (TV show, "Kojak")
Anyway, I'm going back to watch the rest of the movie. It's much better than I expected and seeing James Bond lurking around in a kilt is a treat.
