If it's a work event, following the day at the office, and a business suit would be appropriate, then I think your regular argyll (tweed or otherwise) and waistcoat would work fine with whatever sporran you wore that day. If it's not a black tie or otherwise formal event, I see no need for a fancier than daywear sporran. I have often worn a black daywear sporran with my tweeds to an evening event that was nicer than "pub night" but not a formal black-tie affair.
