New Goat Hair Sporran on MoD Culloden Cantle!

This project has been a loooooong time in the making. I bought this MoD "Culloden" brass cantle about 5 years ago to go along with the one I already had built a brown leather bag for. I sent it to Artificer to get a bag built on it with a wavy goat hair front (along with a fox hide which he built into a beautiful sporran). There were some issues with the mohair colour I had originally wanted, which delayed the project while we figured out other options. Then his repetitive stress injury put the kibosh on his ability to continue working at the pace he had previously set. And then, well, I forgot about the project for a couple of years. But he and I have been in contact periodically over the last year or two while we discussed new options and details.

Long story short, this finally got finished and shipped out to me. I couldn't be happier with it.

Now, I know what you're thinking. Is it wookiee hair? Highland cow? Tina Turner wig? Nope, it's goat hair. Artificer had given me several options of hair-on hides that he had, and I picked this one. The root of the hair is dark brown to almost black, faded along its length to a rustic reddish-brown. I wanted it to look unruly and wild, and I think it came out nicely.

The bag itself is black, with a black liner just under the front of the cantle (pinked in traditional style).

Artificer says he's limping along through the rest of his backlog, but as far as I know he's still not taking any new orders.
