Whites of Fife
Greetings from Down Under. I wonder if someone out there can help regarding the origins of the White families in Fife. I've an established genealogy going back to Fife in the early 1700s and am curious about where the name might have started.
Since White is one of the names McGregors took during the proscription of that surname, that's one option. I've heard the same goes for Lamont. But then Fife is hardly the Highlands or the Islands. Or it could be an Anglicised version of a surname like Bain, or something else. Any ideas? Any other Whites from Fife out there?
