I think the hose are fine, and the level of flash exposure is good - just enough. 2-3 fingers below the kneecap seems to be the general rule of thumb. Some of my hose sit higher than others, and also if I pull too hard they stretch a bit more, and the hose sit higher. I usually just roll them a bit more then, but that can look off if you have a particularly ornate cuff.
