rare tartan at local Games
Last weekend was the Ventura Highland Games (also known as the Seaside Highland Games, being held adjacent to the Pacific Ocean).
I generally see the same tartans over and over at all our local events, but watching morning Solos one of the competitors was wearing a kilt I'd not seen.
How to get a clue about the piper's tartan? Wait for him to turn around, because many Pipe Bands have the band name and/or logo on their bag-covers.
As we see the bag-cover says Haileybury.
Quick googling revealed numerous Haileyburys scattered across the world.
As it happens this Haileybury is a school in Melbourne, Australia. Yes the piper is a long, long way from home!
Here they are at the Worlds in Glasgow

By the way the judge's tartan, also unusual, was discussed in a thread here a while back
