Hello all! My name is Owen, I'm a bagpiper with the Memphis Pipe Band, and I have been playing pipes in different bands for about 30 years. I grew up in the USA - Pacific Northwest, going to highland games / Celtic festivals and parades that my dad was playing in. He was born in Kilbirnie, Scotland and has played the pipes since 1958 (and still plays in Colorado).
I still recall the first time wearing a kilt, I was age 12 or 13 and it was the "Portland Tartan Ball", basically prom for the Scottish community in the Portland, Oregon area. A wintertime event, I learned how cold vinyl car seats became and why one should tuck the kilt under you when sitting.
I've got five traditional kilts (two are band kilts, three are mine) with all the other accompanying items (shirts, vests, Balmoral jacket/vest, Prince Charlie, etc.
Glad to be here!
