I've owed David this review for some time now, so I better get to it.

I first decided that I needed a black sporran from David and Sten at Freelander Sporrans to match the brown one I got from them a few months ago. I already had a black standard day sporran from Scotland, but wasn't very thrilled with it. While it served it's purpose, it was hard to get things in and out due to the tiny opening. It also didn't hold very much.

With my brown Freelander Sporran, I knew that I could store just about anything I would need to store... including a cat, if I really needed to. So, it was time to contact David about a black one. David had previously made a sporran that he and Sten had dubbed "SabreTooth." I coveted that sporran from the day I saw it. It was so beautiful and unique...I needed one of my own. Alas, someone else here on the forum had fallen in love with it and purchased it before I could. So, I asked David if he could make me a copy of SabreTooth. Thus, SabreTooth 2 was born.

Sten and David have made a lot of great improvements since the first sporran I got, which is still aces by the way. The stitching is better, and the new stabilizer is a great addition to the back. My only complaint about the stabilizer is that it makes it possible for me to shove even more items into the sporran! We've now upgraded from cat to jack russel terrier storage capacity! The flap of the sporran has also undergone some adjustments, so that it seems to lay better along the sporran.

The leather on these things is top grade quality too. They're made out of thick, yet incredibly soft/supple furniture grade genuine leather. I appreciate that because I know it makes it almost impossible to tear, unlike the cheap bonded leather my other sporran is made of. Bonded leather is the leather equivalent of particle board...they glue scraps of leather and pressure seal them together to make a sheet of leather.

The bits of horn used on the Freelander Sporrans are a great touch too. People are always asking me about them.

All in all, I give Freelander Sporrans a 10 out of 10. They make an excellent combination of quality, durability, uniqueness, and cost. I give them my highest recommendation!

Here's a great promotional pic of SabreTooth 2 that David took for me:
