Howie Nicholsby (he of TFCK fame) has some of these sporrans in his new showrooms in Edinburgh. As far as I recall, he has them displayed without either chains or straps! The only one I quite liked was the clock design - the front of the sporran is decorated with brass cogwheels, etc. from old clocks and watches - but I'm not sure that even I could wear it!
The reason for the high price of these is most likely because each one is totally individual and, therefore, unique. Whilst the designs follow particular themes, each sporran is slightly different.
