Having recently hijacked another thread (for which I apologise) by mentioning my new acquisition, I thought it was now high time that I produced photographic evidence.

The GT Doublet is a contemporary 'take' on the traditional Montrose Doublet - one of the Highland Evening Dress jackets not so frequently seen these days....... the ubiquitous Prince Charlie, which is smart, has almost become a uniform. That is fine if you want to look like everyone else at a 'black-tie' function, but some of us want to be a little more individualistic - and the Doublet fits that bill!

Geoffrey (Tailor) in Edinburgh designed this modern version - hence the prefix "GT" - which is basically a single-breasted interpretation of the double-breasted Montrose Doublet. I wore the latter for many years when giving Highland Dance and Scottish Country Dance displays and exhibitions in the 1960s and '70s, but I can no longer get into it!! The lace jabot and cuffs from those days work just as well with the GT, however.

I have put photos of it in my personal Gallery here, showing the new Doublet teamed with my oldest 8yd kilt (Gunn in ancient colours, 1973), my 8yd Maple Leaf kilt (2003) and, for an additional contemporary twist, with my 8yd plain black Geoffrey (Tailor) kilt (2004) in the identical fabric as the Doublet - Barathea.

Again, I am unable to reproduce the photos here but, as I say, they are in my "X Marks the Scot" Gallery.

[Can anyone throw light on my problem of suddenly not being able to bring photos into the text of my posts, when they sit happily in my Gallery?]
