Who knew?
Okay, I finally have an experience I think is worth sharing. Hopefully, it will brighten your day.
A little background though: The first time kilted at work was VERY scary as I didn't know how some of my co-workers would react. I live in a very consertive area of the country (Bible belt). I had warned my boss, employees and some co-workers but we are a fairly large organization. I knew there were a few who would probably try to say I wasn't compliant with the dress code, etc. (In every organization there are alweays a few who like to stir things up.) Well the first time went very well. The second time even better and yesterday was the third time I've gone to my job kilted.
Here is what really threw me for a loop. I entered the break room and who just happened to be in there eating lunch? Why it was our area VP. I thought I was dead for sure, my director would get an e-mail from HR stating that "Extremes in personal dress or grooming are not tolerated.... yadda yadda yadda". As soon as he saw me his eyes got as big as saucers. Realizing there was no going back I spread my armes and said. "So wadda ya think?" His response... "I like it! In fact I've got a couple myself."
You could have knocked me over with a feather. I went through the rest of the day with a huge smile on my face and no calls from HR to my director. It just goes to show life is full of surprises.
Keep the faith!
