Great Kilted outing!
Yesterday, my wife and I had to go over to Starkeville for her to meet with some of her professors. (I spent some time in the library, and left with an armload of George MacDonald Fraser books.)
There were lots of grins, and double-takes from folks and several folks made conversation about Scot's heritage, all favorable I might add.
After lunch, my wife admitted that most of her objection to me wearing the kilt was based on her concerns about the perceptions of others. She also said that she now realizes that what other folk think or say is unimportant and she apologized for speaking negatively. In fact, her behavior has made nearly a 180 degree turn around.
That is what made the outing a great one. And even if every other person I met had made a rude or smartarsed remark, it would still have been a great outing due to my wife's comments.
Most fun exchange of the day: While waiting for my wife at the restaurant, a gentleman greeted me with an everyday, "How are you?", and I responded with my standard, "If I we doing any better I'd be twins," comment. He chuckled and said, "I guess you'll have to settle for being a Scot." My reply was, "And what's better than being a Southern Scot?" We parted with grins and chuckles.
