Oatmeal hose would be far too informal for wear with a black Argyll, in my opinion - it works well in virtually all casual/informal circumstances, but not formal.
In your case, I do not think green hose would be a good idea. For one thing, it would be very difficult to obtain the matching green, unless you have them especially knitted. The green kilt hose normally available is in bottle green - too dark to look good with your kilt.
Finally, the excellent jacket would look so much better if left unbuttoned.
Thanks, Ham! The black hose is starting to grow on me, although when I first took the pics I really didn't like the look. As for green hose, the Locharron bottle green hose I have is actually a pretty good match to the kilt. I will have to give them a try next time I get dressed up to go out somewhere.
