Some comparative views of my Scottish Heavyweight wool black kilt, made to measure from The Kilt Shop, Galashiels, as against the off the shelf goth lightweight polyester black kilt by Mercy Clothing. The Scottish kilt is a much heavier and fuller garment, has the full set of thirty plus pleats at the back, and is ideal for going to dinner, funerals, court etc. Surprisingly it has only one buckle at each side while the goth kilt has the full set with the two buckles on the right and one on the left. The goth kilt comes complete with the double front apron, fringe, an inner lining on the top six inches or so, but compromises in having barely twenty pleats. Ideal for casual wear to promote more kilt wearing. You get what you pay for; we are not comparing like with like here as the wool kilt cost more than ten times the price of the polyester one; they are kilts for different occasions and complement one another.
