I am surprised how often this happens. Formal kilts like that are cut so they fit your shape. I've never put mine on backwards, but I am sure it would feel odd.
I caught part of a "reality" show on TV a while back (my wife loves "reality" TV, I only watch those shows by accident). It was a wedding. The groom's men were all kilted, and I saw at least one that was backwards. Kinda sad that that mistake was broadcasted for the nation to see.
