Perhaps to better understand another's point of view? Seems a worthwhile endeavor to me.
If the question were asked in a different way, say, "What beliefs, experiences, motivations, and expectations cause some people to define a kilt in narrow terms, and others more broadly," would that help?
However, as others have pointed out, this topic seems to come up often enough, so a review of past threads might be a starting point for Sylvain. Can anyone supply some starting points?
