Vernacular english is closely related to dialect. it is the standard native language of a country but is usually related to a locality. so the lady at the museum in london was using the broader term of yank dialect. myself being from the south, would disagree. but the brotherhood of kilt wearers covers the entire country if not the world (see xmark map of members).
