    Kilted at the Irish Festival

My wife and I went to the East Durham (NY) Irish Festival, as we do every year. I wore my Irish National kilt. Here I am, enjoying what P1M might call "a muckle big" Guinness.

I saw two khaki kilts and one other guy in tartan. Actually, he was wearing a jacobite shirt and vest and a balmoral, as well. A bit much for the setting, I thought. The only other kilts I saw were on the Albany Police Pipes & Drums.

My favorite group of the day was Searson, a Canadian family band. In addition to some great music, these lovely ladies did a dance.

Hair of the Dog is an Albany-area group, and another favorite of mine.

The Prodigals are more progressive rock than Celtic, but were enjoyable, too

It was too dark to get a decent picture of the Glengarry Bhoys. We left toward the end of their show and, I'm ashamed to say, did not stay for Black 47. I was pretty full of Guinness by that point and my beloved designated driver had had all the festival she could take.

Earlier in the day, we watched some of the Andy Cooney Band's show. Andy is a protege of Paddy Noonan, and does a waltzy showband thing that is not my cup of tea, but is very popular with the older folks. We also heard some of Calley McGrane & The Exiles. Good stuff.

All in all, a fine kilted day.
