Last Day of School & 1st Day Kilted

My son (age 6) bought his kilt at the Alma Highland Games a few weeks ago. He has warn it a couple of times and loved it. Since he bought it, he has been asking his mother and I if he could wear it to school. To be honest we were a little tenative, children can be mean and we didn't really know how the administration would handle it. But his last day of school was a 1/2 day so we let him wear it. It went well. There were a couple of boys that made a "skirt" comment every time he walked by but he corrected them every time and didn't feel he needed any back-up from the teacher. His teacher didn't say anything about the kilt, one way or the other. But he has seen me in my kilt and when we've discussed mine, he seemed very positive about it. The teacher has even made some jokes to my son about it, on the day they were going to go outside to play games he told the girls not to wear skirts and the boys not to wear kilts.

Forgive the picture quality, we were late for school and in a hurry.

The tartan is Chisholm Red from Strathmore Woolen Company. He is lacking a few accessories, but so is Dad. Hopefully we will be able to retify this by the end of the summer. I've been inspired by Panache and Ozmeath and I think I will try and make him a sporran (and maybe me one too). I definitely want to get him a Sgian Don't but haven't found one I like yet. I was thinking about getting him a very non-traditional kilt pin, maybe spiderman or something.

I thought this was appropriate for my 100th post!
