Wow - that is really going some in the weight loss line.

I have been making kilts for myself which are just folded and sewn down then put into a narrow waist band and held with a belt, no other fastenings. I put two belt loops at the back, one each side and one on the end of the apron. When the edge of the apron hits the belt loop at the side I take the kilt apart and remake it a few inches smaller.

Can any of your kilts be take apart and remade in this simple fashion? Some of mine have been redone three or four times, but it is not really obvious. Some are now 12 inches smaller in the waist than their first incarnation. It seems to be a continuous cycle of remaking, wearing and putting aside for a while as I shrink.

I have some which are sewn down the edge of the pleats, those are remade with a smaller 'show' but the 'soft' pleated ones are ironed flat and remade entirely.

I sew by hand, using a slender needle, which seems to ensure the waistband and belt loops etc can be reused each time.

The sewing of hems and edges, and sometimes the joins, can be left undisturbed by the resizing, so it is not as big a job as making from scratch each time.
