Like most of you, I always enjoy P1M's pics from the castles and ruins he hikes through.

Well, in Washington we don't have old castles, but we do have some "ruins."

These pics are from Fort Casey. The guns were put in place to protect Puget Sound from naval attack.


Here's the fort from the rear. It is built into a bluff, overlooking the Sound





Here's a closer view of one of the guns. They were built on lifts. They would remain out of sight from ships in the bay, and then rise up to fire.

Looking the other direction, out across the sound. There were additional guns on the other side of the water, forming a "triangle of death."


This is the ammo entrance area for nearby Fort Ebey. I kept expecting a sign here reading "Speak Friend and Enter..."
