Depending on the shirt, and the type of rise on the kilt, I sometimes leave it untucked. Especially t-shirts... they're usually short enough to not matter... a jacobite style shirt, or anything remotely fancy or a shirt that's a little longer than my usual t-shirts gets tucked in, it really does look better. With a Utilikilt, chances are it's worn much lower than a more traditionally style piece, so tucking in is a good idea.
