    Corduroy Cord (Channel) direction

I made a brown corduroy kilt, unfortunately the channels went the length of the bolt rather than the width. This being so, it required me to stitch panels so the cord direction was vertical (the right way). It's very difficult to ensure the stitch does not fall in the wrong place in the pleat under this circumstance.

This was the first kilt I made, I like the idea of a cord kilt, but it's a beast to wrap my head around sewing it. It's not bad, but I would like to make another since my skills have improved.

Is corduroy made where the cord travels the width of the bolt so as to make a kilt the normal way of folding pleats and having the channel be vertical? I haven't found it and fabric sites don't disclose it.

Inquiring Kilt maker wants to know.
