First Kilted Outing!!
I was in Charlotte on a layover, and my plans for the evening were to meet up with a friend, get dinner and drop off some food to her hubby. I put on my newly received Olive Original UK, my hiking boots, and a black T-shirt with drums on it, as well as my SWK "Tactical Sporran". Thusly clad, I went down to the lobby of the hotel to await my friend.
There were many business travellers restrictively trousered, and as I walked proudly kilted through the lobby, I received only the merest glances and heard no disparagements. I did feel much more self assured in my masculinity (since I walk like a cowboy anyway) and proud to be Unbifurcated.
I performed my first "Hamish Pleat Sweep" in front of two dudes sitting in the lobby and they didn't bat an eye.
The concierge (a very nice lady) actually said "That's a nice look, sir." WOOHOO!!! My first compliment from a lady!
As I waited outside on my friend, several more travellers entered with nothing more to say other than "Howyadoin?"
I got picked up by my friend in her mommyvan (her son being tied down in his carseat) and performed my "Automotive Entry Sweep". She replied with "I wondered how they do that..."
We went to a Harris Tweeter to get some cold drinks and an asst manager said "Wow! Cool Kilt!"
Got a few glances from some of the ladies in the store. Heard no comments about my masculinity since I was accompanied by a purty lady AND a toddler...
After dining on some Chinese food, we took a plate to her hubby, who works in a veritable bastion of manilness...A Trucking Dock. Hubby is as big of a geek as I am, so I was not worried about his reaction. I was expecting some comments at the docks, but they never materialized. The girl dispatcher there did say "Nice Legs", however. She was in her late forties, and it was good natured, not disparaging.
All in all, I felt much more confident and self-assured than I had originally believed I would be.
**NOTE** I did NOT go "Regimental".
