And in other news.....
Those are two tunes from a CD that just got released this weekend. We finished the release party a few hours ago. The band is made up of four local moms with some real musical talent (Kathy is an incredibly versatile guitar/banjo/bouzouki player). Three of the four ladies play in my Klezmer band, and they asked me to sit in on some of the tunes on the CD. I'm playing clarinet on those two cuts. The music is kids/family music. It's a mixture of light jazz, spirituals and standards, plus a really cute song about a froggie and mousie wedding that gets spoiled by a big grey cat. I'm on that one, too, playing pennywhistle.
The Klezmer band played Friday night for Simchat Torah at their synogogue (three of the moms are Jewish, as is the drummer), but we haven't recorded that band, yet. Klezmer is a blast for me, because clarinet is the lead melody instrument in Klezmer music, and I get to absolutely wail all night long.
If you go to www.cdbaby.com and search for "Hey Mom!" you'll find the Moms CD's. I'm on "Singing on a Star", which is the album that got released today. It's their 2nd CD. It really is great kids/family music. They give you the lyrics in the CD cover so you can sing along.
SF Bay Area locals; this is the band (the Klezmer/Greek Music/Scottish music iteration of it, anyway) that I've been trying to get to play at Beer and Kilts night. The fiddle player came up playing Irish music, and the guitarist can play bluidy well anything.... They won't do for the late-evening rock-outs, but for the 6:00 - 7:00 slot, seems good to me.
