Beware: An EBay problem
Last night I was on E-bay and found a sporran that I wanted http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1. So I bought it with buy it now. When the confirmation screen popped up it said "Free shipping for each additional item from this seller's other listings!*" Then I saw a kilt http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1 that I purchased with buy it now and subsequently a kilt pin. When I went to pay I got a surprise that the shipping had defaulted to a higher price. I went to the pay-pal screen and asked that he honor his shipping promise he subsequently mailed me back stating that I was to pay the most expensive shipping charge and the other's were free. Somehow though there for five pounds sterling added to the kilt shipping price. So I once again emailed him for a corrected invoice and he emailed me back with the following unedited message:
"Because the free shipping is NOT for the first item it is for the lesser two other items ie
If you have multiple purchases you pay for the bigger item to ship ? Which is the most fair and reasonable thing to do Otherwise folk could buy a £4.99 item and a bigger kilt set say normally costing £19.99 go free Think about it It would mena i would go out of business
What i will do is discount the shipping for the kilt which to £14.99 that will be your total shipping cost
Hopefully i ahve explained it ok if not come back and i can try
Jim
ps i wil re send the adjusted invoice"
As you can see he didn't discount the shipping it was stated that it was 14.99 from the beginning. I agreed that that would be fair and paid with pay-pal the total invoice plus 14.99 shipping. I wrote on the comment line of the pay-pal payment "Note:I'm O.K. with paying the most expensive shipping charge that is fair. What I don't like is your auction wording that indicates otherwise."
Case closed.....Nope not yet. I just got the following nasty reply. Unedited e-mail:
"YOU WROTE
:I'm O.K. with paying the most expensive shipping charge that is fair. What I don't like is your auction wording that indicates otherwise.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN ????????????????? what i dont like is your attitude you eietrh change your veiw or i will withdraw my gesture of goodwill What about my listing is it that you find ambigous???
dont be petulant be precise in your answer and i will be the first to agree How can you say what i am doing is fair but i am somehow not stating the obvious on the listing I dont understand you It need sot be clarified
What i need from you sir is a bit of maturity Dont dare imply that i am being dishonest or intentionally confusing You have been the ONLY person ever to nOt understand the obvious
I want an apology RIGHT NOW or i will cancel the sale you can buy fom someone else who will take your childish comments
Have you any idea how much it costs to send goods like this to the US even at £14.99 it wil not be enough
The cost also is for Post AND packaging So i have to pay for the packaging pay for the storage and invenbtory of it and pay someone to wrap it up and take it to the post office

Wow! isn't that a fine way to treat customers. Am I crazy or am I being abused by a guy who listed free shipping and is now having a hissy fit over his own auction listings. O'Neille
