I didn't get to Edinburgh this year but, in all the visits I have made there in recent years, summer or winter, that same 'Braveheart' fellow has always been there on the pavement outside Geoffrey (Tailor) 's Old Town Weaving Mill, immediately below The Castle Esplanade. I think he garners most of his charity donations by charging for posing for tourists' cameras.
You were lucky to get Greyfriars Bobby all to yourselves. Last time I was at that statue, one had almost to fight to get near it!!
