These days it's usually Terry Pratchett and The Phantom.
Currently checking out The Essential Lenny Bruce by John Cohen. What an amazing confronting cheeky bugger he was! And Genius at that.
On the philosophical path, have you read any of Richard Bach's writings ? I was given 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' when I was still in school and have read a few of his other books over the years.
I do enjoy some Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams for some light hearted relief while still being quite philosophically thought provoking between the lines if you're in the mood....
