Tom, the point is far more subtle than that.

We choose moderators, based on a couple of criteria. First, we are looking for individuals that we feel sincerely care for the future health of this forum. Second, we are looking for ways to spread our staff out, geographically. None of us are super-human, we all have lives (believe it or not) and we have jobs and these things do not permit us to be online 24/7/365. However, we don't want a moderating staff that are all online from 7:00 AM - 9:30 AM, Zulu -0500, because that leaves the forum uncovered, the other 21.5 hours each day. Freelander is on quite early in the morning, as far as I am concerned. And from my perspective, Colin sleeps waaay too late in the morning. I am 5 hours behind you and Colin is another 3 hours behind me, so we are doing a fairly good job of covering the forum for as many hours a day as we are able.

As a native born Scot I have a different cultural background from Freelander and yourself eg: educationally, politically, socially ( our Legal system, Education system Social welfare system, Health system and Political administration are all unique and an integral part of Scotlands ethos!!
I won't argue that point. Politically, Scotland is different from Norway, Canada, the U.S., etc. However, politics are a forbidden topic on this kilt forum. Else you would see me making far more comments about your First Miniature. I removed my own signature, Saor Alba, because I felt that it was making an possibly inappropriate, political comment.

While I personally enjoy learning and discussing Scotland's educational, political and social issues, we cannot lose sight of the fact that this is not a forum to discuss those issues. This is a kilt forum.

Are you going to take part in the Independence First March and Rally, coming up in March? Oh, wait, that's political. What are your thoughts on the recent surge of SNP support in Scotland? Oh, wait, that is political. Is Labour finally going to lose its hold on the Central Belt? Oh, wait, that is political. Are you taking part in any of the anti-pylon rallies, to protest pylons being built in historic areas? Oh, wait, that's getting close to being political. What are your views on your council taxes? Oh, wait, that is political.

You see, most of the issues you mentioned above are topics that we have specifically decided were inappropriate for this forum.

How about that new kilt you recently had made? How is it fitting and looking? (See, I knew I could find something for us to discuss )

Will you be going to Balquhidder the day, to commemorate Robert MacGregor's life? (There's another safe topic.)

So, you see, there's no hidden or subversive reason for not having a moderator in Alba. If/when an appropriate Scots candidate appears, then we will likely see a change in our staff.

Here again, you are missing a finer point. Tom, the staff rarely gets time to discuss diverse issues. We're too busy trying to keep this forum on the straight and narrow. Which, on most days, is akin to herding cats.

Some of us here in Scotland don't always have the romanticised view of the Country we live in, but we still love it and are fiercely proud of it history, culture, traditons and people!!
In that instance, you and I have much in common. But what does that have to do with a fellow living in the US with no Scots ancestry and a deep desire to wear kilts?

There are forums established for the purposes you've named above. Join in some of the political discussions that we've had on CLS. Maitland, David Turner and I had some rather lively political discussions going on, over there. Many of the members there are deeply interested in hearing Scottish perspective on all issues, whereas many of the members here are interested in wearing a kilt.

I know of no Scot who would describe themselves as having a European outlook on anything??

Tom, we have members of the forum that live in that wee country to your immediate south and they may (or may not) feel they ARE British, so even your comments above could be taken as being divisive. The purpose and intent of this forum is to bring lovers of the kilt together, no matter where they stay and no matter what their passport says.

If a suitable candidate for our forum staff comes along from Glaschu, Inbhir Nis, Pàislig, Gleann Comhan, Steòrnabhagh, Earra-Ghàidheal, Sruighlea, etc., then we'll have a Scots staff member. Until then, we're going to muddle along as we are.

And that will, hopefully, put this one to rest.
