XKilt unveiled!

So, many moons ago Alan H. figured out how to make a machine sewn, box pleated kilt, and through a barter exchange, agreed to make one for me. See the thread here. Well Alan put together a great kilt and being a bavy twill, was the only solid color kilt mising from my stable. However, after I put it on, I thought it looked vaguely skirt like (my own opinion). Decided I was being ridiculous, so walked out to get my wife as we were heading out and she had the same impression. So I changed kilts and decided to compare it with my others to see why. After comparing it to my other kilts, I decided that the pleating coming so far around the front was what gave me that impression. Now I had talked to Alan about this and assured him it was just my preference, just as some like tartan and some not. Alan graciously offered to take it back for himself, since he and I have the same measurements. I said No, I would try to alter it to suit me. Well, then we had the trip to the UK, Thanksgiving, trips, Xmas, etc., and I never did anything with it. Finally took it out this past week and made some minor changes. First, I opened up the first pleat on each side of the apron and made the apron larger and made the pleats on either side deeper. That gave me a traditional tapered apron that covered the whoe front of the kilt. And since I had to make a new waistband (the old one was too short after the alterations), I decided I wanted one a little wider, so I did that as well. And who really wants/needs a sporran all the time? So I added an underapron pocket (a la PK's). So here are some pics:

If anybody is interested, I can detail exactly what I did. Only took about 2 hours all told, most of that being sure I knew what I was doing, and how to proceed. Although I think that Alan's iron must have a higher stun setting than mine, removing the pleat creases he put in there took some work!

Now I am ready to tackle an XKilt from scratch! The construction is very simple.
