Back to work today after the Christmas holiday to earn some more money for my kilt fund. After being casually kilted every day since Christmas and faced with only two more formal clothing options today - heavyweight black kilt with Argyle jacket or pinstripe trouser suit - the kilt was the obvious winner.
Off to Selkirk first where I had to sit as Assessor at a custody court
The magnificent Court House was very busy today with Sheriff Court and District Court sittings. There were crowds of people waiting in the foyer and stairway for cases to call. Many were of the type which we might describe as chavs in the UK or rednecks in the USA and can be quite intimidating but the few who did comment on the kilt were all very complimentary.
This grand building was constructed in the 19th century as a replacement for the earlier court nearby where Sir Walter Scott presided. The original court is now a museum.
Later I had to call in at a local law office to collect some desk work, but home for lunch first and time for a photocall beside the red fence.
I like the pleats on this kilt, though when I am in court and wearing a robe these are covered by the gown. Will be wearing same kilt again tomorrow to court at Duns.
