You are certainly entitled to wear them where you like. Just be aware that you are wearing them much longer than they are designed to be worn. This is particularly true to the "traditional" tartan kilt. I (though I do not own one) understand that Utilikilt sales their kilts to be worn below the knee. Just my two bits...
