Greetings gentlemen. I have discovered this forum while searching for some accessory item, which I seem to be doing more offten lately. I have long cherished my celtic heritage and divide my allegiance between Scotland and Ireland. My wife and I were married in Annan Scotland in 2000, and I have travelled to Scotland on three occasions, but until three weeks ago, I had never worn the kilt. My nephew is a proud Scot, and got married last month. He asked me to officiate at the ceremony, as I have various commissions, and he asked if I would consider wearing a kilt. His mother offered to pay for my rental, but after a day of reflection I decided to plunge into the deep end and get my own. I priced kilts and saw the great disparity between 8 yard wool and the more casual kilts, and was totally confused. I figured I better try to go local and see th product before I made any commitment. I found a scottish lady in Largo FL who held herself oout to be a kiltmaker so I spoke with her and went to her home for a consultation. She showed me her very impressive work, and she is clearly a total traditionalist, she convinced me that an 8+ yard 13 oz. was the only way to go. Those others "wont swing properly." She gave me the choice but I decided what the hell, give me the top of the line. Her price was a reasonable $475.00 and she promised delivery in less than 4 weeks, and she came through with what I consider a beautiful piece of work in ancient MaCallum. The wedding went well, and I have since worn the kilt again to the Zephyrhills Celtic festival, and plan on sporting it again at the Dunedin Games on the 31st. I'll never be a daily wearer, but I am really getting a charge out of wearing the kilt. Now, I'm working on a more interesting sporran, and a day coat. It's tough because my Scot heritage keeps the wallet tight.
