I was wandering around the grocery store a while back shopping for necessities (Frog-speak for beer), wearing my denim UK. A young girl who attends one of the schools I work at sees me, then does a bit of a double-take. As I draw near, she says, "Why are you wearing that?" I reply, "It's a kilt, and my wife got it for me." She says, "No, WHY are you wearing it?" "Oh! Well, you see what you're wearing (jeans)? And what your mom is wearing (slacks)?" She nods, and I smile and say, "Well, there ya go - I didn't want to dress like a girl!" She smiles and they continue on their way. I don't see her at school for a day or two, the next time I see her is at the store again, and I'm wearing my workman UK - "Oh, you have more?" "Yep, I sure do!" The next time I see her is in the entrance to the school, and I'm wearing sweats (it's a PE day for the youngster I work with there, and the nature of my job is such that I participate too, to a certain extent - tag, laps, whatever the kids are doing). The little girl sees me coming in with the youngster I work with, points at me and laughs, "You're wearing your girl-clothes!" The staff standing around gave us the most quizzical looks, especially after I reply, "Yep -you're right, I'm wearing my girl-clothes!" Not one of the women standing there had the courage to ask what the heck we were talking about, it was so funny!
