"Sgian dubh" is most often pronounced "SKANE DOO", but properly it is "SKANE DOOV", because "bh" in Gaelic is sounded as a "v". (but i am no expert and i can be wrong)

like someone else said, you want to rough up the surfaces before you glue so that the glue will have something to bite into.

i recommend "J B Weld", you can find it at Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc. it comes with a light grey and black tube. you mix together to get a dark grey and you apply. it works great on metal surfaces, and it has been known to repair engine blocks.

my dad's technique is to melt and pour pewter. it's melting point is low enough to not damage hard woods and bone and antler and the like.
