Hey There,

A little while ago, someone posted a link to kilt hose pattern here on X marks. I have been able to fumble through a few Highland regalia DIY's, but I knew that my skills ended at knitting. So, I approached my Dear Mum to see if she would knit me a pair. She use to knit quite a bit when my Grandmother was alive, but has not done so in almost a decade. Mum was not to fond of the patterns that I printed off from the internet and said she would still make me a pair if I could find a Patons knitting pattern for Kilt Hose. It took a while, but I found one, and guess what she got for Mothers day! My sisters rolled their eyes (mind you I have made them both kilts at their request) but my Mother was really thrilled.

I just got off the phone with her a few minutes ago, she has started my first pair (cream with dark red cuffs to go with my Maple Leaf Tartan kilt). She also called to thank me, she said a flood of memories came back to her of my grandmother while she was knitting. I have the last pair of mittens that my grandmother made me and I treasure them. I am sure I will treasure my Dear Mum's kilt socks!

I found the Patons Kilt Sock pattern on EBay. I typed in "Kilt Hose" and looked under Crafts. The number on the back of the booklet is 3285. Next time I talk to my mother I'll ask her to let me know the name of the lady I bought it from, I included the envelope in the gift because it came form Inverness, Scotland, where some of our ancestors came from!
